Bakkt App Users will soon be able to spend cryptocurrencies and loyalty points on payments company Cantaloupe’s unattended retail network.
A new collaboration with Cantaloupe will mean Bitcoin [BTC, +2.41%] and loyalty points are going to be spendable at over 1,000,000 devices like vending machines, consistent with an announcement Thursday.
Gavin Michael, CEO of Bakkt, uses the instance of “buying a snack at an airport with unused points” as a use case for the service.
Bakkt – a firm founded by Intercontinental Exchange – will also integrate into Cantaloupe’s consumer app, giving users the choice to “Pay With Crypto” or “Pay With Points,” facilitating payments of this type at micro-markets, arcades than on.
Originally revealed earlier in October 2019, the Bakkt app eventually launched earlier in March this year, with the delay attributed to the Coronavirus outbreak.
